Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory has always been a hot topic in the field of translation. However, most of the previous studies have focused on the macro aspects of vocabulary, syntax, text or style, and few of them focused on adverbial clauses in English for shipbuilding and engineering. Therefore, taking the translation practice of “CVN FLIGHT/HANGAR DECK NATOPS MANUAL” 7.11-11.1 as an example, this dissertation analyzes the various adverbial clauses appearing in the task text and draws four main translation problems, namely the location differences of adverbial components, the translation of conjunctive words, the complexity of structures, and the omission of adverbial clauses. The author selects different translation strategies according to the different types of adverbial clauses in the text to solve the above problems. For adverbial clauses of time, adverbial preposition method is mainly adopted;for adverbial clauses of condition, sentence pattern reconstruction is mainly used;for those adverbial clauses of purpose, sentence manipulation method is used;and for the omission of adverbial clauses, the author adopts complementary translation method. On the basis of these four major translation strategies, techniques such as voice conversion and reverse translation are supplemented, striving to achieve the most appropriate and natural equivalence.
