This is a reflective research report on the translation practice of the first chapter The Colonial Legacy of the book Kenya: The Quest for Prosperity by Norman N.Miller.The source text is informative. In the translation process, the translator took Eugene Nida's functional equivalent theory as a guiding principle and adopted proper translation strategies so as to achieve the closest natural functional equivalence and optimum communication. In this report, the translator analyzed the text type, stylistic features and linguistic features of the original. It introduced the typical translation problems which were encountered in the process of translation and proposed corresponding translation strategies. The translation report mainly discussed translation skills in nouns and clauses. To be specific,in the first segment of chapter four, the nouns were dealt with equivalence translation method and conversion translation method. Also, the translator sorted these complex long sentences and finally chose attributive clauses and adverbial clauses as examples to analyze.Attributive clauses were dealt with prepositioning and post-positioning translation methods. And reorganizing translation method was used in adverbial clauses translation process.Through this reflective research report, the translator realized that to translate the attributive clauses and adverbial clauses, firstly we should understand the original texts accurately and the antecedents and adverbial part should be identified.Through this translation practice the translator hopes to improve the translation ability and provide some references to the study of Kenya literature.
