A Hand-to-Hand Fight With Materially-Discussion About Physical Expansions In The Painting Process From Antoni Tapies

This dissertation will take the application of painting material in easel painting from Antoni Tapies as a clue,giving a deeper research based on the extant abundant theories about the aspects of artistic form elements in painting from Antoni Tapies from a specific angle,which is the expansion on materiality of painting materials.It will explore How Antoni Tapies express his concept by expanding the materiality of painting materials during application process.For the methodology,the research will combine the literature review about theory of intentionality of consciousness from Edmund Husserl with practical thoughts from own painting experiences,keeping questioning and thinking with a prudent attitude.Firstly,for the details of this research,it will analyze the features in application of painting materials in Cubism works,which was acted as representative and pioneer in applying painting materials in easel painting and an big influence to art of Antoni Tapies,as well as in Dadaist works and in Surrealism works.All of those will provide a help to spot Antoni Tapies in frame of reference of art history and have comparison in painting material application area.Then,go back to the detailed painting process of Antoni Tapies,the dissertation will disclose the methods used by Antoni Tapies to apply the painting materials and expand materiality from several different aspects,such as the degree of hint materiality of painting materials,the circumstances,the “Horizont”,the selection of materials,and the consciousness.This dissertation found that the process of having full hint for materiality of panting materials and painting itself,realizing the change in circumstances in painting and painting materials,reviewing followed by the change,gathering intentionality in “Horizont” actively,selecting accurate material,and mobilizing the multiple dimensions of consciousness,etc.,all actually were the evidence to the fact that the materiality of painting materials is now constantly expanded.What showed and proved the process of expansion on materiality above is this hand-to-hand fight between Antoni Tapies and painting materials.This kind of fight is pushing forward the continuous evolution produced by the giving of consciousness and the fulfilled meaning in general consciousness,and the concept behind works was formed naturally during the constant tangle with “normal” situation.It is such expansion of materiality resulted by fighting hand-to-hand with painting material,gave the works from Antoni Tapies a deep and full tension and enlightened a methodology for current application of material in easel painting.
