Vocabulary is the smallest unit of language.For teachers,vocabulary instruction is the cornerstone for helping primary students to acquire language knowledge.For elementary school students,however,their memory of vocabulary only stays at the mechanical level,which makes teachers' instruction difficult to some extent.At the same time,it also puts forward higher requirements for teachers' instructional level.This translation report takes the fourth and the fifth chapters of the Practices and Perspectives of Primary Language Arts Teachers: A Formative Design Experiment Analyzing the Use of Professional Development to Enhance Vocabulary Instructional Practices,written by an educationalist named Nancy Ann Bradley,as translation materials.The text explores effective ways to enhance vocabulary instruction of primary teachers by an educational experiment: teachers are required to master effective instructional methods or strategies.The purpose is to enhance the interactivity and interestingness of instruction,helping students to gain more vocabulary knowledge.In this translation report,the Text Analysis Theory of Christian Nord is mainly used by,analyzing the intratextual and extratextual factors that affect translation in the source text.In addition,the three rules of Hans J.Vermeer's Skopos Theory,the translation strategies of literal translation and free translation,as well as translation skills such as amplification,conversion,inversion and voice exchange are used to ensure that the target text is consistent with target readers' reading habits.In the process of translation,the translation software of SDL Trados Studio 2017 is applied to promote the efficiency.Some online translation tools such as Baidu,Google,and CNKI translation assistants are also mainly used,as well as referring to relevant websites and parallel texts in an attempt toconvey information in the source text accurately.The achievements of this translation practice are hoped not only to enrich the Chinese and English reference materials in the field of education and instruction,but help domestic language teachers learn the circumstance of education and instruction abroad,as well as learning useful experience to apply in teaching.The translation abilities have been enhanced a lot in this practice.At the same time,it is hoped that the results of the practice can provide reference for translators to deal with the similar type of text ever since.
