Research Of Lin Shu's Letters-A Traditional Intellectuals Cultural Perplexity In A Transitional Era

As an ancient Chinese prose writer and translator,Lin Shu,who knows two kinds of culture,has clearly shown the problem of cultural blending.It is an epoch full of transition in the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China,the traditional intellectuals such as Lin Shu was strongly impacted by the crisis of the external environment.Lin Shu jia shu is a collection of the letters of Lin Shu to his later generation.Comparing with the poets and novels or fictions,letters are more intimately,it embodies the true heart of the writer.Studying Lin Shu's letters can make profounder understanding for Lin Shu.More over,it is also helps for to know how a traditional intellectual feels in a transitional time.The research object of this dissertation is Lin Shu,in addition it's also takes Lin Shu's letter as the main research contents.First of all,it takes three parts to discuss the relationship between Lin Shu and the Chinese ancient traditions.They are personal experience,friends and the inheritance of traditions.At the same time,Lin Shu had translated a large number of Western literary works.Obviously,it is clear that Lin Shu was influenced by Western culture.Therefore,Lin Shu's attitude towards western culture,which leads to the main point to this dissertation,is another topic need to study.In addition,the era Lin Shu had lives was transitive and turbulent,what he had choose in the current situation is a phenomenon which can not be ignore.Further more,we can find out the attitude of Lin Shu to the Western culture was contradictory.Finally,Lin Shu reflect the clash between Chinese and Western culture,how it becomes so contradictory is a issue should be discuss in this dissertation.Otherwise,this dissertation also hope to probes into the relationship between Chinese ancient traditions and modern Chinese literature.Lin Shu's letters has providing a new perspective to know more about Lin Shu.Analyzing Lin Shu's letters through cultural point and placed it in the view of historical can not only explore how Lin Shu was thinking in a transitional time.In the mean time,it is a opportunity to think about the origins of Modern Chinese literature.This dissertation's research will focus on traditional intellectuals,and the background is the changing time.According to the analysis with Lin Shu's letters,it is consider that the contradiction shown by Lin Shu in cultural acceptance actually refracts the problem of how to get new meanings in the context of modernity.
