| The report is written on the basis of the translation of the excerpt of Morita Therapy----Follow Nature and Conquer Yourself(a book written by Professor Shi Wanghong,a prominent expert in Morita therapy).The book illustrates Morita therapy elaborately in a plain way,and engenders great influence among readers.The therapy is effective not only in treating neurotic disorder,but also in adjusting mentality for normal man.It is significant for modern people to foster a positive mindset to face pressure in a better state.Nonetheless,Morita therapy is far from being popular in western countries.In order to broadcast Morita therapy across western countries,the excerpt is chosen as the source text.Part of the second and third chapters of the book is chosen as the source text of the translation project.According to Newmark's text typology,because the source text is academic as well as directive,it is considered to be both informative and vocative.Therefore,communicative translation is employed as the main translation strategy.In order to retain the form of source text,semantic translation is applied as well.The former strategy focuses on facilitating target reader's response whereas the latter focuses on the the loyalty to source text.The difficulties come mainly from communicative translation.To be specific,the difficulties can be split into two levels,one is lexical and the other syntactic.On lexical level,the translation of Morita therapy's terminologies and expressions is not easily accessed online.To find the translation,parallel text has to be consulted.Some medical terms can not be directly translated neither,and several websites have to be found out and visited.On syntactic level,due to the structural difference between English text and Chinese text,several translation techniques have to be put into use.Amplification,omission,inversion,synthesization and division are employed to bridge the gap and produce a smooth and readable text. |
