This is a translation project report on The Little Black Book of Decision Making:Making Complex Decision with Confidence in Fast-Moving written by Michael Nicholas,of which I selected Part Three as the translation source text(ST),including Chapter 8 and some of the Chapter 9.Decision-making is a complicated mental process,and it influences aspects in daily life.This translation project mainly covers the background,goals and significance of the translation project and the structure of the report which includes the author's introduction,publishing facts and the linguistic features.Decision-making process underpins the text.The excerpt part is in dealing with the knowledge of psychology and neurology,which has something to do when making decisions.The author gives his statement,based on investigational studies and some concrete examples,about the inside-out challenge,the influence of neuroplasticity,attention and the mindset of decision-making,etc.Meanwhile,the theoretical support of German functionalism,Katharina Reiss' s Text typology and Hans Vermeer's Skopos theory,underpins the translation project to improve readability.Translational difficulties,such as specialized terms and long sentences with psychological and neurological background,as well as corresponding solutions are highlighted.To solve these problems,translational techniques are required to make the discourse coherent and expressive.Once the translation report finished,the translator has learnt lessons from the translational practice and listed some problems still to be solved.
