As is known to all,Opera is a large-scale integrated art genre Which is made up of the music(vocal and instrumental music),drama script(and performance),literature(poetry),dance,stage art,such as integrated genre,is given priority to singing.It has been occupy a place in the history of western music for its own unique charm.Opera is different from the drama in that it is centered on music,which is” a drama completed with music".The relationship between the two should be: music is composed for drama,drama is created for music,and the two complement each other.The use of the art of "re singing" makes the opera music well balanced with the drama."The wedding of figaro" is one of the most famous of all,and it has conquered the world with its bold and vocal style.Since Mozart to 19 th century),musicians have paid great attentions and innovated use of the "re-singing" technique in opera.The duet,is the most widely and frequently used music technique in the opera,especially some lyrical duet,love duet.I have chosen five most representative opera writers in the west music history,Rossini,Donizetti,Bizet,and Verdi,besdies Mozart.Duet have a large proportion in their opera,so it must be some same technique between these musicians,and there is also some individuality and style of them.Go deep into the opera duet,this paper is to explore the development of duet in this one hundred years,by analyzing the representative composers' opera duet and its style of melody,harmony,tonality layout and sound effects.These analysis reflects the style and features of different composers.From the study of the artistic characteristics of opera duet,we can also find this study may have some references value or significance to present music reserch or performance.
