Just like the science history, the period from the late 19~th century to the early 20th century is a great epoch in art history. The time when Impressionism Music developed in that period is a very important period which occupies an illustrious position in the entire western music history, and during which many significant innovations and changes occurred in music forms and the humanities, etc. During that period, the fusion of music and other humane studies came to a higher degree;they benefited from each other, integrated with each other and became co-prosperous and they together created the colorful and brilliant culture at that time, which went with the tide of historical development. Our concerns are the researches about how music itself developed and how to study western music development when it is put into a certain historical, social and cultural backgrounds. This thesis is intended to study Impressionism Music from various researching angles, combined with the study of society and era at that time. It is going to discuss the interaction between Impressionism Music and other artistic categories and trends of thought in art and literature. Linked to the inevitability of western music's development and evolvement, the thesis is, in a broader view, to take art as the first coordinate, and tries to confirm that the Impressionism Music (represented by Debussy's music) is an inevitable great innovation at the turn of the century. Observing the development ofImpressionism Music in the 19th century in a broad view and throwing off some cultural limitations to look at the music itself evolving process will help us better obtain some cultural information in music and help us better understand the social life and humanistic values reflected in the Impressionism Music.
