Primary school is the basic stage for English learning and the pupils have strong curiosity and imitation.As English is a new thing for them,pupils have natural absorption of the teacher's language input which forms their first impressions on English.For Chinese pupils,especially those in rural areas,English classroom is almost all their resources for receiving language inputs;thus teacher talk in English classroom plays a key role in laying their foundations.In order to learn the situation of teacher talk in rural primary English classroom,the author puts forward the following questions: 1.What are the characteristics and problems of primary English teacher's classroom items? 2.What are the characteristics and problems of primary English teacher's talk items? 3.What are the characteristics and problems of primary English teacher's communicative items?4.What are the characteristics and problems of primary English teacher's feedback items?During the implementation of the research,the author takes Krashen's Input Hypothesis,Long's Interactive Hypothesis and Swain's Output Hypothesis as the theoretical bases,adopts Literature Review Method,Classroom Observation Method and Discourse Analysis Method and does the qualitative and quantitative researches.The author first observes the classroom through the campus monitoring system,who transcripts the classroom video and analyzes the discourse afterwards.Through the statistics of different language items and the in-depth analysis of the abstracts,the writer finds: 1.The characteristics of classroom items are an emphasize on teaching and organizing,encouraging,interesting,multi-mode and checking classroom items;the problems are a lack of formality,ambiguous meaning,no change and much repetition.2.The characteristics of teaching items are diversified in ways and means;the problems are the domination of teacher talk and a lack of formality,coherence and change of gradient.3.The characteristics of communicative items are the amount and form of the question,rate of repetition and the relevance to the topic are different in teachers;the problems are a lack of flexibility and change,the domination of display questions,the unscientific use of question's difficulty and occasion.4.The characteristics of feedback items are Positive and form feedbacks are dominating;the problems are a lack of change,concrete object,content feedback and strategic negative feedbacks.The research starts from the angle of education,analyzes the characteristics of teacher talk in different classrooms,finds out the problems and puts forward measures for improvement.So in the theoretical aspect,it promotes the theoretical development of teacher talk in English classroom and provides a basis for instructing the primary English teachers on the front.In the other aspect,the quality of teacher talk in primary English classroom will directly influence the quality and level of English teaching,students' construction of language knowledge and their performance.Thus,this research in teaching practice has a hope for improving teaching quality and promoting teacher's professional development.
