Euphemism,as a linguistic phenomenon,has been changing and developing regularly.At the same time,euphemisms also a cultural phenomenon,reflecting the different values and customs of China and the west.With the development and progress of human civilization,euphemism is more widely used.The taboo topic of the human society has gradually entered the euphemism and becomes an important part of it.This article aims to study the death euphemism in both Chinese and English and make comparison research.The purpose of this article is to help the second-language learners and users in the china figures out the linguistic features of euphemism of death.Through the reflection between these two different culture,they could have a better understanding of the value orientation,so that get some inspiration from teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This paper is divided into five parts: Chapter one: It shows the purpose and significance of the topic selection,research status,research methods and innovation points of this paper.Chapter two: It defines Euphemism from rhetoric,pragmatics and cultural and social linguistics,and introduces the characteristics of euphemism from 5 aspects: nationality,sociality,implicative,and historic.Chapter three: A comparative analysis of the different types of "death" euphemisms of religion,class and cause of death;Chapter four: Through religious belief,folk customs and funeral culture,social system and other three aspects,the author analyzes the reasons for the differences between Chinese and western euphemisms.Chapter five: through comparing the result and the reason analysis,from teachers,learners and teaching material write three directions get inspirations and Suggestions are given,finally the purpose is to hope can be helpful to the teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
