Academic procrastination is a common phenomenon in university campuses.The higher level of academic procrastination is not conducive to the physical and mental health of undergraduate students and academic progress.In addition,there is little research on the countermeasures and interventions for academic procrastination of undergraduate students.Therefore,it is of great theoretical significance and practical value to further understand the present situation of academic procrastination of undergraduate students and the influencing factors of academic procrastination and to formulate targeted intervention measures.In this study,514 undergraduate students from a University in Henan were randomly selected.First of all,we discuss the current situation of academic procrastination of undergraduate students.Then,we investigate the relationship among coping style,academic self-concept and academic procrastination using questionnaire.Last,the effectiveness of group counseling in the intervention of academic procrastination of undergraduate students is explored by experimental method.The findings are as follows:(1)The current situation of academic procrastination of undergraduate students and the difference in demographic variable embodied as follows: more than half of the undergraduate students have procrastination,about 1/7 of them have serious procrastination;In gender,origin of students,whether the only child or not,and the subject,undergraduate students do not exist significant difference;On the grade,the level of academic procrastination of sophomore students is higher than the other grades,junior,senior third,freshman lowest.(2)Positive coping was positively correlated with academic self-concept,and negative coping was negatively correlated with academic self-concept.Academic self-concept was negatively correlated with academic procrastination.Positive coping was negatively correlated with academic procrastination,And negative coping was positively correlated with academic procrastination.(3)Academic self-concept plays a complete intermediary role between positive coping and academic procrastination;Academic self-concept plays a part intermediary role between negative coping and academic procrastination.(4)The group counseling program developed in this study can effectively reduce the level of the negative coping style,improve the academic self-concept,and then reduce the level of academic procrastination of undergraduate students.There is not only a good immediate effect,but also a good tracking effect.Combined with the above results,this study draws the following conclusions:First,academic procrastination is prevalent among college students,which the sophomore students have the highest degree of academic procrastination.Second,positive coping and negative coping are closely related to academic self-concept and academic procrastination,respectively.Thirdly,academic self-concept had a complete intermediary effect on the relation between positive coping and academic procrastination,while academic self-concept had a partial intermediary effect on the relation between negative coping and academic procrastination.Last,the group counseling program based on negative coping and academic self-concept is effective to interfere with academic procrastination of undergraduate students.
