A Research On The Relation Of Academic Procrastination Of College Students,parenting Style And Coping Style

Academic procrastination is widely existing among the college students which means the student are aware of what is the task about, how much time are needed to fulfill the duty and how much time left, but they still refuse to accomplish their job on time. The students who made academic procrastination know the right thing is to finish the job, but they refuse to do it on purpose. Coping style is the measures people take when something bothering happened suddenly to them. Parenting style is the way parents raise their children, through which they can influence their children in many ways, such as telling the children what is right or wrong,and they convey love to the children. Both coping style and parenting style could have influence on academic procrastination.This paper choose 600 college students from freshman to senior in four colleges of Harbin.This paper got some conclusions about the relations among the three variables through the research.1.Different grades got different marks on academic procrastination. The senior got least marks and the freshman is next to the senior. Then the sophomore got the most marks which means they always avoid finishing job on time. The marks of academic procrastination are different from each other because of region. The students live in country got the most marks and the students live in city got the least marks. While the mark of students in small town got is between this two kinds.2. Coping style is different because of different grade. The senior always pick up the mature way to solve the problems, the sophomore tend to adopt childish way to solve problems. The freshman and junior use them both.3. Permissive parenting and neglecting parenting are least adopted by parents to rasie up babies. Authoritarian and authoritative parenting are used by most parents.4. The students who are raised up in authoritarian parenting seldom delay on study plan,behaviors in school, the students who are raised up in authoritative parenting delay on the three aspects homework, study plan and behaviors in school. The students who are raised up in neglecting parenting put off study management and the activities with teachers. The students who are raised up in permissive parenting got academic procrastination on the job of the study management.5. The students who use the mature coping ways to solve the problems seldom put off the jobs they should finish on time but the students who adopt the childish ways are opposite absolutely.6. The students who raised up in authoritative parenting always pick up mature ways to solve problems. The students who raised up in other three ways prefer the childish ways.7. Neglecting parenting not only can predict whether academic procrastination would happen or not alone, but also can predict through the coping style.
