A Report On A Football Interpreting Practice In Little London Football Club

This report is based on an English-to-Chinese interpreting task that the interpreter practiced in the football class of Little London Football Club on September 12,2017.The football course was taught by a coach from the United Kingdom.The students were mainly from Grade 3 and Grade 4 in a primary school.In the classes,the coach mainly played several football games and explained relevant rules and football skills.For the purpose of this interpreting practice,the translator prepared in the following aspects: looking for background knowledge and terminology in football,watching videos of football teaching,preparing outfit and recording device.After the interpreting task was completed,the interpreter analyzed the recordings and reflected on the interpreting activities.He believed that the interpreting task was generally successful,he used some interpreting skills to basically convey the coach's intentions.The interpreter had a deeper understanding to interpreting,and also acknowledged to football and its English terms.In addition,the interpreter also discovered some problems in the interpreting task.(1)The deficiency in football knowledge.The interpreter did not know much rules about the football games,and only made some preparations in football terms.(2)The pronunciation of British English.The coach is from Britain.The interpreter practices American English in his daily studies,so sometimes,it's a bit difficult to understand the coach.(3)Non-intellectual factors.The interpreter met some difficulties on distractions and nervousness,which may influence the effect and efficiency of interpreting.In the future,the interpreter should do the followings to make improvements:(1)Learn encyclopedic knowledge by reading more.Be familiar with some specialize knowledge.(2)Pay more attention to listening skills,especially listening to British English,and to be focused more on British English.(3)Overcome difficulties in non-intellectual factors.Improve psychological and physiological qualities.This article is mainly composed of the following chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction,it briefly introduces the interpreting practice and this report.Chapter 2 Task Description describes the background,contents,requirements,and audience analysis.Chapter 3 Process of the Task,it includes preparations,interpreting and interpreter competence,and feedback.Chapter 4 Case Analysis,the interpreter selects some typical cases in the interpreting process,focusing on the translation skills,misinterpretation and other difficulties.Chapter 5 Conclusion gives conclusion and reflection to the entire interpretation task and puts forward the implications.
