Previous studies showed that the effect of e-story book reading for young children's literacy development was debatable. The possible reason was that researchers notice the design of e-story book, including interactive elements and multimedia features. To explore these questions,a story named Winnie the Witch was used as learning materials, and iPad was used to present the story in this study. In Experiment 1,a single factor(interactive elements vs.interactive elements)between participants design was employed to investigate the effect of whether e-story book can facilitate young children's learning. In Experiment 2,a single factor(e-story book vs.p-story book)between participants design was employed to investigate the role interactive elements in e-story book reading played. In Experiment 3,A 2(animated pictures vs.no animated pictures)× 2(music vs.no music)between-subjects design was employed to investigate the effects of multimedia features in e-story book reading.Experiment 1 found that compared with p-book,young children in p-story book showed more interest in reading but with a worse comprehension.Experiment 2 found that children understand better with no interactive elements.Experiment 3 found that the recall scores, comprehension, the interest of stories were higher than no animated pictures, and when presented music with animated picture, children showed more go-reading tendency, also compared with p-story book. All experiments were found children in p-story book felt much more fatigued. In conclusion,e-story book equipment with much factors could facilitate young children's book reading, but worse than p-story book.Interactive elements impeded the understanding of stories.E-book with animated pictures can aid young children's comprehension, even compared with p-book.
