Based on the“student-centeredness”in new English curriculum reform,Appreciative education,as a product of modern times,has been put forward and been implementing for many years.Appreciative education represents the modern education belief that pays much more attention to the students' essence of life,respecting students,understanding students,praising and encouraging students to arouse theirs self-confidence,stimulating their learning interest and motivation as well,thus developing their potential.According to the present situation of the senior high school English education in our country,relying on the educational philosophy of the new curriculum,the present research is designed to explore how to raise the students'spoken English in senior high school by applying appreciative education.The following two questions will be addressed:1)How to apply the appreciation education theory to the oral English teaching in senior high school?2)What aspects were shown in applying the appreciation education theory to the oral English teaching in senior high school?Three research methodologies are applied in the study,including experimental methods,questionnaires,and interviewing methods.The subjects are 121 students from Grade one in Shishou Wenhui High School.Firstly,the author took two parallel classes as control class and experimental class.At the beginning of the experiment,the oral test was done and it concluded that they were at the same level in terms of oral English abilities so they would be suitable for doing the experiment.Then an experiment was done through implementing appreciative education,which lasted for one term.During the process of teaching experiment,the author frequently adopted different kinds of methods of appreciative education in the students'oral English practice.But,the traditional teaching methods were adopted in the control class.At the end of the experiment,we did another oral test,through the comparison and thoroughly analysis of two oral test scores,we found that students' oral English abilities have been greatly improved and the students make greater progress,especially the rate of low score significantly reduced.What's more,through questionnaire and interview to some students,it is stated that a great number of students expressed their progress and confidence in English study.The result of the experiment shows that it is effective method of applying appreciation education in high school students' oral English teaching practice.Thanks to the teachers' recognition and appreciation,students' oral English ability has been gradually improved,enhancing the students' interest in English learning,developing the students'confidence.Students need teachers'appreciation education,therefore,higher requirements are put forward for teachers:on the one hand,we should implement appreciation education consistently and persistently,on the other hand,we need to make accurate assessments and combine appreciation education with criticism education.
