Oral English teaching is the main way to develop students’ language skills.Research on it has paid great attention to second language teaching history.In recent decades,however,researches on it are mainly conducted in universities.Research content focuses only on classroom teaching,and extracurricular training is lacking in policy support.In addition,there has been a big scarcity in the study of high school oral English extracurricular training.The English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017)proposes to realize combination of in-class and after-class training.Therefore,it is urgent to transform traditional “inscribes sea” homework to open assignment,combined with the Theory of Zone of Proximal Development(henceforth TZPD)and Multiple Intelligences Theory(henceforth MIT).Furthermore,it will provide a new perspective for this combination and development in senior high oral English teaching.This thesis aims at exploring the value of open assignment in senior high oral English teaching based on MIT and TZPD,regarding its application as research object.A teaching research was carried out in a senior high school.In order to make the research design more reasonable and coherent,this thesis is designed to answer the following research questions:1)What kind of English open assignment should be introduced to oral English teaching at senior high school?2)What is the value of English open assignment which applies to senior high oral English teaching in terms of fluency,complexity and accuracy?3)What are the attitudes of the teachers and the students towards the application of English open assignment in senior high school?The author firstly sent the students a questionnaire to seek approved assignment types,which stimulated them to speak English.Then,its application value was discussed by analyzing pre-test and post-test results in terms of fluency,accuracy and complexity.Finally,a teacher questionnaire and another student questionnaire were distributed,supplemented with a teacher interview to find their attitudes to English open assignment.All the data were analyzed through SPSS software.The results have shown that open assignment,which is guided by MIT and TZPD,has a certain application value in senior high oral English teaching,especially in improving students’ oral English fluency and complexity.Most of the students and the teachers hold positive attitudes towards it.However,content design and practical application,as well as the function on promoting oral accuracy needs to be improved.In view of the above research results,suggestions for future researches have been put forward.
