A Study Of Characteristics And Ecological Views Of Chinese Internet Buzzwords From The Perspective Of Eco-linguistics

With the rapid development of Internet,Internet buzzwords have developed into a new language.The Internet buzzwords are the embodiment of the dynamic language changes.They are hot words and hot phrases frequently used on the Internet for a period of time.They are mirrors reflecting social changes.Internet buzzwords are the most frequently used and most popular language expressions in network languages,through the study of which can help us know of the survival situation and development trend of network language.That is to say,look at one spot on a leopard and you can visualize the whole animal.Moreover,Chinese Internet buzzwords are a new special type of member in the language system,which have the characteristic of humor and conciseness.Chinese Internet buzzwords are not only influenced by Chinese local dialects,but also influenced by some foreign languages,of which English has the most significant impact on them.At present,Chinese Internet buzzwords are pouring into our daily life rapidly and violently.Therefore,how to standardize the use of Chinese Internet buzzwords has become a highly concerned issue among linguists.Since the 20th century,many linguists at home and abroad have conducted a variety of researches on Chinese Internet buzzwords from different perspectives,such as humanity linguistics,sociolinguistics and ethnolinguistics,to explore the interrelationship between language and its environment.A majority of the studies are mainly conducted from the theoretical level.However,this study will take a new perspective,eco-linguistics,to study the Chinese Internet buzzwords from the practical level.With the deterioration of the environment,people have paid more and more attention to ecology.Linguistics has also been inspired by ecology to form a new discipline,that is eco-linguistics.Eco-linguistics is one of the most important branches of linguistics,the main opinions and ideas of which can be traced back to Darwin’s theory of evolution,survival of the fittest in natural selection.Eco-linguistics is a new discipline combining ecology and linguistics,which studies the language based on the ecological theories to investigate the interrelationship between language and environment,and the influence of environment on language through language phenomena.At the 19th National People’s Congress of the Communist Party of China,president Xi Jinping once again emphasized the importance of speeding up the reform of the ecological civilization system and building a beautiful China.We should not only build a harmonious living environment,but also create a harmonious network ecological environment.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the Internet buzzwords from the perspective of eco-linguistics.Based on the eco-linguistics in pragmatics,this study makes an overall study and case analysis of Chinese Internet buzzwords with qualitative and quantitative research methods.Through the analysis of the top 10 Chinese Internet buzzwords of each year from 2008-2017,a total of 100 buzzwords,it is easy to figure out the characteristics of Chinese Internet buzzwords and the interrelationship between language and environment as well as the language pollution of the Internet buzzwords.Finally,some suggestions on how to deal with the pollution of Internet buzzwords are put forward in order to promote the harmonious development of the network ecological environment.This study shows that the evolution of language is similar to that of biology,which is consistent with the linguistic diversity and dynamic laws of eco-linguistics.Meanwhile,the Chinese Internet buzzwords play an important role in economic globalization and culture communication.From the new perspective of eco-linguistics,this study systematically summarizes the language features of Internet buzzwords and how they reflect their ecological views through social ecology,humanistic ecology,and environmental ecology.Moreover,the results of this study have made a beneficial attempt for the study of lexicology.For a special language phenomenon like Internet buzzwords,establishing an official online vocabulary is more time-efficient and convenient than publishing a paper dictionary.Being frequently used,the Chinese Internet buzzwords have inevitably brought about a certain degree of network language pollution as the result of excessive imitation,defamiliarization,and uncivilized usage of some expressions.However,we should take a positive and optimistic attitude toward it,that is,select the essence and discard the dross.In conclusion,from the perspective of eco-linguistics,the development trend of Chinese Internet buzzwords is upward.People should treat Chinese Internet buzzwords objectively,fairly and tolerantly,so as to protect the diversity of human languages.
