The meaning of buxing in modern Chinese is rich and its usage is complex. The article focuses on the use of degree adverb for the meaning of extremely high degree after the head. This kind of usage is rather special, and the previous research is relatively weak. This article intends to make a comprehensive and in-depth examination of its syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects on the synchronic plane to deepen the understanding of the use of buxing. The thesis includes six chapters in total as follow:The first chapter is the introduction. It mainly introduces the significance of the topic, introduces the research status, explains the research content, and briefly summarizes the research methods, listing the sources of corpus. The second chapter analyzes the syntactic characteristics of the degree complement buxing, and examines the sentence status of the unitized complement. It is found that the related structure X de buxing is an adjective component.lt mainly serves as a predicate in the sentence, and can also be used as an attributive and object. The situation of serving as a complement is rare.At the same time,it often appears in declarative sentences and exclamatory sentences, which are rare in interrogative sentences and cannot appear in imperative sentences, nor can they be directly denied. In the article, the predicate X is divided into three categories:adjectives, verbs, and nouns, and the single syllable tendencies of X are pointed out;X de buxing can be used in conjunction with some prepositions to directly elicit the narrative object from prepositions.lt can also coexist with the le and tone auxiliaries, and can be modified by some adverbs. The third chapter explores explores the development and evolution of the semantics of buxing from the diachronic and synchronic levels, and describes the evolution of the semantics of complements from the actual to the virtual.Buxing was was originally used as a partial phrase, gradually lexicalized, and then solidified into a word. The origin of its meaning of extremely high degree is related to "close to death".When buxing is used as a degree complement. It describes a certain degree of traits to a very deep degree and expresses the subjective feelings or evaluation of the speaker. The article analyzes the process of the dynamic development of the meaning complementation of the phrase buxing from the perspective of cognitive law, format specification, subjective expression needs, and grammaticalization. The grammaticalization is discussed in detail in the next chapter. The fourth chapter examines the process of grammaticalization of the complement buxing from three aspects of process, motivation and mechanism. This chapter mainly analyzes the creative innovation, misunderstandings, and pragmatic motives to drive the grammatical ization of buxing, and analyzes the mechanism of grammatical ization from the aspects of reanalysis and analogy, metaphor and metonymy, and subjectivization of the word. The fifth chapter examines the pragmatic functions of buxing. When it modifies the degree of prepositions,it mainly expounds the personal evaluation of the speaker. This evaluation which just belong to the speaker may not be consistent with the facts. It exaggerates the degree of a certain character of a person or thing in rhetoric, giving the hearer or reader an unfamiliar, novel aesthetic feeling. It is often combined with derogatory prepositions, and appears frequently in spoken language and literary works. The sixth chapter is the conclusion. The main points of this article are combed, and the shortcomings and prospects of the article are explained in the end.
