Research On Literati's Behavior And Literati Mentality In The Period Of Changing Generations In The 13th Century

This thesis takes literati mentality as the research object through the analysis of literati mentality at the end of Jin Dynasty and the end of Song Dynasty in the 13 th century.It examines commonness and individuality of literati mentality in the period of changing generations,and analyzes the changes of literati mentality with the passage of time.It also explains the ideological reasons of all kinds of literati mentality,and finally reveals the profound significance of literati mentality in the history of Chinese ideology and culture.The thesis is divided into three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction explains the relationship between mentality and literature and the historical background of literati's life in the period of the change of the 13 th century,and expounds the history of the research on the two major subjects: literati mentality in the late Jin Dynasty and literati mentality in the late Song Dynasty.The text is divided into three chapters: The first chapter discusses literati's retrospects and nostalgia when they are faced with the destruction of the country and the collapse of the Han Confucian civilization.The second chapter describes literati's confrontation and resistance for Mongolian invaders on the premise of recognizing their own identity.The third chapter interprets literati's new attitude towards Mongolian rulers and their efforts of seeking a variety of ways to adapting to a new era.The conclusion reviews the text's conclusions,following the research results of the academic history,and emphasizes the differences,flexibility and contradiction of literati mentality in the period of changing generations.Also,it summarizes the political,cultural and ideological reasons for the question that why literati mentality happens,and explains literati mentality's relationships with the traditional Confucian thought and literati's spiritual and moral pursuit.There are too many literati in the period of changing generations in the 13 th century to be analyzed one by one.Therefore,the sum of all literati mentality discussed in this thesis does not equal all literati mentality in this period.The thesis focuses on exploring literati mentality's reasons and showing the expression form of it with the help of the poems and words left by literati.When stating the typical mentality of some literati,this thesis will take a certain character as an example to carry out analysis.
