During the Reform Movement in the late 19th century,with the rise of newspapers and magazines run by the Chinese people,the introduction of western scientific and technological knowledge became an important part of new newspapers and periodicals.Special scientific publications or corresponding columns such as " Scientific Review" appeared and became the an important way to spread scientific and technological knowledge in China at that time.In the Reform Period,knowledge of science and technology in newspapers and periodicals vary in categories,covering mathematics,physics,chemistry,astronomy,geography,biology,medicine,history,politics and many others.At that time,newspapers and magazines translated and interpreted scientific and technological knowledge in different subjects,which solving the doubts of people and promoting science at the same time.Those knowledge were wrote on plain words.They were so vivid and easy to read that it fits for all kinds of people.So it also facilitates the dissemination and diffusion of knowledge.This paper introduces the scientific and technological knowledge published in the newspapers and introduces the scientific and technological achievements with high frequency in detail,such as "X ray","Hot air balloon" and "Telephone".Then it draws the conclusion that in order to make readers have a all-round understanding of those achievements different newspapers and magazines reported different aspects of the same technological achievement.By analyzing the publish place and amount of newspapers and periodicals,it is concluded that the publish of new newspapers and magazines is restricted by the means of transportation and communication.They're often popular in places with convenient transportation and developed economy.In addition,the popularity of the new newspapers is closely connected to the recommend of enlightened officials and the purchase of new academies.The readers of new newspapers and periodicals are mainly officials,academic members,students in schools,and other social groups interested in Western learning.This paper summarizes the scientific and technological knowledge contained in the newspapers and finds that knowledge contained in the newspapers and periodicals is often related to people's daily life,including meteorology,transportation,communication tools,animal and plant science,and medical and health care.It shows that the introduction of technological knowledge is mainly based on the phenomena of people's life,which helps the promotion of scientific and technological knowledge.Besides,newspapers in the Reform Period such as " Scientific Review" and "Xiang Newspaper" are all provided with question and answer sections.That is,readers or students can ask questions,while people who run newspapers have to answer it.So the interaction between readers and the press formed.In this way,on the one hand,readers and newspapers can be closer to the distance between,and then stimulate readers to buy and spread the newspapers.On the other hand,it can help to target at the problems that readers need to solve.Moreover,the reader's questions always have commonalities,the solutions can benefit many readers with the same puzzle at the same time.So it really played a role in opening up the the wisdom of the people and had a positive impact on the spread of new newspapers and scientific knowledge.
