Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classical political allegorical novel written by English writer George Orwell, occupying a remarkable position in world literature. The Chinese versions are numerous, above them, two versions from Dong Leshan and Liu Shaoming who respectively present Chinese mainland translator and Taiwan&Hongkong translator are most widely praised and accepted by readers. The author would try to make a comparative study on these two versions from the perspective of eco-translatology which was put forward by professor Hu Gengshen at the beginning of 21 st century. This theory focuses on the translational eco-environment and how does translator adapt to the eco-environment,Hu holds that the process of translation is in which the translator tries to adapt multi-dimensionally to the translational eco-environment and make appropriate adaptive selection to the target text.Based on this theory, this thesis analyzed the two translators' translational eco-environment both including external eco-environment and internal eco-environment macroscopically, applied the method of three-dimension transformations(linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions)to make a detailed analysis on their versions microscopically. This author's practice-based research showed that translational eco-environment could left great influence on both the translator's selection to source text before translation and the multi-dimension adaptive selection to target text during translation. As a result, the perspective of eco-translatology not only does play a positive role on translators' and researchers' translational view, but has feasibility and applicability in translation practice.
