This research is aimed at making a comparative analysis of nonverbal behaviors in class between novice and expert English teachers in a primary school.Teachers' nonverbal behaviors in class are a series of actions and gesture produced from teachers' body and the objects surrounding them, which serve for teaching in class.Nowadays, scholars focus on the innovation of teaching methods and the improvement of teaching skills to help teachers improve their teaching quality, but there are not many deep researches on teachers' nonverbal behaviors, especially English teachers' classroom nonverbal behaviors in primary schools.Through comparative analysis of novice teachers' and expert teachers' nonverbal behaviors in class, the author hopes that this study not only helps English teachers in primary schools reflect on their classroom nonverbal behaviors, but also contributes to improving their professional development. This thesis attempts to explore the following questions:(1)What are the differences between novice and expert English teachers' awareness of using nonverbal behaviors in class in primary School?(2)What are the differences between novice and expert English teachers' usage of nonverbal behaviors in class in primary schools?(3)What do students think of their English teacher's nonverbal behaviors in class? The author selects two expert teachers and two novice teachers from the English teachers in Grade Five in her internship school, and interviews them in order to compare their awareness of using nonverbal behaviors. In addition,in order to make a concrete comparison of the usage of classroom nonverbal behaviors, the same teaching contents of four teachers are under nonparticipant observation. Finally,a questionnaire survey is conducted on 90 students from one novice teacher's and one expert teacher's classes to show the students' views on teacher's nonverbal behaviors in the classroom.Through interviews, observation and questionnaires, this study finds that the differences of nonverbal behaviors in class between novice teachers and expert teachers in primary schools are mainly reflected in the following aspects: time distribution, eye contact, walking route and board-writing.According to the research results, the author analyzes the reasons for the differences between the two groups..For the development of novice teachers' nonverbal behaviors in the classroom, the author puts forward the following proposals:(1)Pay attention to the analysis and theoreticalaccumulation of nonverbal behaviors in the classroom.(2)Strengthen the training of nonverbal behaviors.(3)Pay attention to the independent reflection on the nonverbal behaviors in the classroom.(4)Enrich and perfect the knowledge structure of the subject.
