For a long time, traditional oral English teaching based on textbooks has paid much attention to the standardization of language, which neglects the authenticity of language. And there is a lack of authentic language environment for students to practice oral English in classroom teaching. The traditional oral English teaching causes a negative influence on students' oral communication. This study employs movies as teaching supplement materials in oral English teaching, providing students with authentic language input,so as to improve their spoken practices in classes, stimulate their learning motivation and promote their oral competence.Based on the Input Hypothesis,Swain's Output Hypothesis and Motivation Theory,a twenty-week experiment has been conducted. The subjects are sixty students in Grade seven from Dongguan Middle School of Junior Branch, who are divided into the experimental group and the control group. The research mainly investigates whether using English movies as supplement materials can improve students' oral English competence and whether the use of English movies as supplement materials has any positive effect on students' attitudes towards oral English learning. There are three stages of the research, including the pre-experimental stage, the while-experimental stage and the post-experimental stage. In the pre-expremental stage, both of the experimental group and the control group are asked to complete the pre-test and pre-questionnaire.During the while-experimental stage, after studying the basic sentence structures, students in different groups are asked to consolidate their oral English by using two different teaching materials. The experimental group employs four movies as English teaching supplement materials in oral English teaching, including Lion King,Zootopia,Up and Frozen.Correspondingly, the control group has oral classes by using traditional textbook. In the post-experimental stage, both of two groups are asked to finish the post-test and the experimental group is required to complete the post-questionnaire.The data of the experiment is collected by oral English tests and questionnaires. The statistics of oral tests are analyzed by SPSS 20.0.According to the results of data analysis,as language materials,English movies are interesting and authentic, which can provide a relaxing and delightful learning atmosphere for language learners.Diverse classroomactivities such as imitating, role play and film-dubbing greatly increase students' opportunities to speak English. The activities can stimulate students' motivation and improve their confidence and initiative in oral language learning.Findings also show that the experimental group has a stronger awareness of pronunciation and intonation and a positive attitude towards movies as teaching supplement materials.
