A Study On The Application Of Cohesive Devices In EST Translation From The Perspective Of Cohesion Theory

One key factor that constitutes text is cohesion,and text is the basic translation unit.To achieve dynamic equivalence and reconstruction of text,cohesion is supposed to be taken into consideration during the process of translation because of different cohesive mechanism in Chinese and English.The meaning of the translated text contains not only just literal meaning of the original text,but also cohesive meaning of all semantic components in the original text.Correct understanding of the source language is an indispensable condition for achieving cohesion and coherence of the target language.This thesis uses several sentence examples to make an analysis of the application of cohesive devices in English for science and technology(EST)translation after the literature review of cohesion theory at home and abroad.Due to the application of cohesive devices plays an important role in improving the translation level,the core of this thesis is the application of five cohesive devices.This thesis explores the cohesive difference between English and Chinese and corresponding translation skills are summarized systematically with the guidance of the cohesion theory put forward by Halliday and Hasan.Based on the study material,the most and the least commonly used cohesive devices in Chinese and English are summarized in conclusion.So while translating relevant applicative text,this conclusion can provide cohesive translation skills in addition to general translation methods.
