It is not difficult to find that many pupils are troubled by the difficulty in story recitation and it is easy for them to forget the stories when they are in higher grade.Mind mapping can help students integrate fragment knowledge and branch through specific associations from the central theme.By using keywords and graphing branches,the radial thinking process and results can be turned into visual tools to cultivate students' advanced thinking skills and knowledge construction ability.This study will apply mind mapping to English 'story' teaching in primary schools.The author tries to find out an effective method to understand the story and help students memorize and retell the story accurately and fluently.The author also believes it will help them recite the stories and keep in mind permanently.The purpose of the study is to answer the following questions.Question 1:How can we help primary students in higher grades retell the stories accurately and fluently with the help of mind mapping?Question 2:How can we use mind mapping to build scaffold for students so that students can recite the stories and keep in mind permanently?The study lasted for five months.The author selected the fifth grade students in primary school as the research objects,adapt test,questionnaire,interview survey as main methods.The author makes the study from the following aspects:First,collecting and sorting out the domestic and foreign related research about the progress of mind mapping.Through the analysis of references,the author has deeper understanding of the research status in the involved fields,explores the viability of mind mapping applied as an effective tool in English story teaching.Secondly,the author explored a teaching method which was based on the help of mind mapping to achieve efficient story learning.Thirdly,the author adopts effective research methods like pre-post test,questionnaire,interview survey,and deals with and analyzes the data obtained by SPSS statistical software.According to the experiment of apply mind mapping to fifth-grade's English 'story time' course,it have tested the effectiveness of mind mapping in English story teaching in primary schools.In the first place,it is proved that mind mapping can help higher grade students find out the key words,understand the story and then retell stories accurately and fluently.What's more,mind mapping serves as a scaffold that guides students to find the discussion points,to cultivate their abilities to express themselves freely not only in English class,but also in their life.The author also believes it will help them recite the stories and keep in mind permanently.Consequently,there are some pedagogical implications.First,according to teaching aims,the teacher make different scaffolds for students at different levels.It can make students progress with the help of scaffold.Second,using mind mapping to assist teaching make teaching process have certain directivity.It will promote students'understanding of structural knowledge,and continuous development of thinking quality.
