This report is a case study of the English-Chinese translation of the book Other People's Children.The author of this book is Anna Levy with eight years of experience on the bench of a juvenile court.The book discusses from the author's perspective in moving terms how and why youngsters get into trouble with the law and reveals the roots of juvenile delinquency.The report is divided into five parts.The first chapter is a description of the translation task,including an introduction to the task,the paper translated and the significance of the task.Chapter 2 describes the translation process of the project,including pre-translation preparations,translating process,proofreading and post translation reflection.Chapter 3 introduces theoretical framework and its application in the task.Chapter 4,the main body of the report,is case analysis at lexical,syntactic and rhetorical level to illustrate how the translator finally accomplishes her translation task under the guidance of Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation theory.And the last chapter is a conclusion reflecting on the translation experience and limitations of this report.It is hoped that the translation of Other People's Children(Expert)will provide a valuable reference to future translators in this field.
