Lao Si City Folk Belief Research On Performance And Value

Tujia folks have been always living in the northwest of Hunan Province.Tujia people's beliefs appeared in the primitive society,mainly for the worship of nature and witches and ghosts.With the development of history,the Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism culture came to western Hunan,forming a situation of coexistence of various beliefs.Among the ancient Tusi sites found in China,Yongshun Laosi City has the longest history and the largest scalewith most integrated preservation.The folk belief of Yongshun Laosi City which has been passed so far is an objective humanistic phenomenon with remarkable regional characteristics,which contains the spiritual worship and inner pursuit of the Tujia nationality.It is also an important carrier to study the social style and culture of Tujia nationality during the period of Tusi's reign.In the past,scholars mainly focused on the history,culture and system of Tusi people,and also carried out extensive and in-depth research on their beliefs,but there are few works on investigating Tujia folk beliefs of Laosi City.As China has a long history,a vast territory and a large number of ethnic groups,folk beliefs are extremely complex,especially to the new folk belief appearing in people's life nowadays.therefore,it is very difficult to carry out comprehensive investigation and research.The investigation by the present writer found that the folk beliefs in Laosi City enjoy a great variety,wide spreading and strong vitality.And they still affect the life of t locals.That is why they are so representative and valuable when we have study on folk beliefs.In the first half of this paper,we observe the existing forms of folk beliefs,and take the present situation of folk beliefs in Laosi City as the main research object.This paper makes comprehensive analysis on its geographical location,scope,population distribution the system of Tusi and national culture of Laosi City,describes in detail the basic situation and types of folk beliefs in Laosi City,classifies the types of folk beliefs in Laosi City and makes investigation and research on activities,places,clergy,instruments and dress of folk beliefs in Laosi City.All of these help to reveal the characteristics of the local folk beliefs' form,evolution and their influence on the production and life of Tujia people.Folk beliefs have both negative and positive effects.We must respect the objective reality,weaken or prevent their negative effects and face up to their values.The second half of this paper is mainly thinking about the value of folk beliefs in Laosi City,evaluating that the folk beliefs of Laosi City have significant social,cultural and economic values.The study of the folk beliefs in Laosi City lies in making effective use of the folk beliefs resources in Laosi City.
