Listening,speaking,reading and writing consists of the main content of senior English teaching.Reading,an important way of obtaining information,plays a vital role in English reading teaching.Traditional English reading teaching pays more attention to the intensive reading.It emphasizes language points and grammar instead of the practice of reading.The neglect of reading practice leads to the loss of students' English reading interest and their reading ability.Because of this,the author began to think about how to design various teaching activities to meet all kinds of students' needs and to stimulate their reading interest on the basis of the application of Multiple Intelligence theory in English reading teaching.There are two research questions:(1)Can the application of Multiple Intelligence theory in English reading class promote students' interest in English reading?(2)Can the application of Multiple Intelligence theory in English reading class improve students' English reading ability?The research subjects are 100 students from two parallel classes in Qin'an No.1 Senior High School.Class A is the experimental class in which teaching activities based on Multiple Intelligence theory are applied while Class B is the control class in which traditional teaching method is adopted.The experiment lasts a term.Before the experiment,100 students in two classes have a test of reading comprehension as the pre-test and students in the experimental class have a Multiple Intelligence Profile Questionnaire as well as an English Learning Interest Questionnaire.After the experiment,100 students in two classes have a test of reading comprehension as the post-test and students in the experimental class have an English Learning Interest Questionnaire after the practice of English reading teaching based on the Multiple Intelligence Theory.All the data from the experiment are analyzed by SPSS17.0.The result show that the application of Multiple Intelligence theory in senior English reading plays a positive part in students' reading interest and reading ability.Students involvement rate,English learning interest and practical ability have been raised by doing so.This research is not very perfect in terms of short experiment time and small subjects involved in it.However,this study provides some activities which may be helpful for the practice of English reading teaching in the future.
