The Transformation Of Style And Artistic Features Of Taohuawu Wood Prints In Qing Dynasty

As one of four woodcut painting in Chinese folk culture,Suzhou Taohuawu Woodcut Painting is the outcome of the long history,profound culture,booming economy,strong humanistic atmosphere and colorful folk customs in Jiangnan Reigion.During the development process in hundreds of years,the theme is becoming more and more profounder,which reflects almost every aspect of people's life,and the humanistic and artistic value in it is more abundant than ever.In order to provide some beneficial thinking to the recognition Taohuawu's artistic value and the protection and inheritance of this artistic form,this essay chooses Taohuawu Woodcut Painting in Qing Dynasty as the object of research,focusing on the reason for its style-switching in the development process and its cultural implication in Qing.This article mainly focuses on the following four aspects.Firstly,drawing the outline of the basic appearance of Taohuawu Woodcut Painting,dividing its four periods in Qing Dynasty and analyzing the style characteristics and formative factors in different periods.Then,dividing its themes into five types,such as religion and myth,stories of traditional Chinese opera,places of interest,maids and baby playing,current events and customs.After that,summarizing the artistic characteristics of Qing's Taohuawu Woodcut Painting,especially focusing on analyzing its expressive style which is influenced by literati paintings and Western painting skills via comparing with Yangliuqing Woodcut Painting and Zhuxianzhen Woodcut Painting.Finally,analyzing Taohuawu's cultural implication from aspects like custom and belief,life consciousness,aesthetic taste,ethical culture and patriotism.Throughout the evolution of the style of Qing's Taohuawu Woodcut Painting,we saw the influence to this painting from social,economic and political reasons.Strating from the angle of artistic theory,Taohuawu Woodcut Painting not only has decoration effect,but also its cultural implication is very abundant which reflects people's value orientation,mode of thinking and aesthetic taste.Nowadays,the protection and inheritance for Taohuawu Woodcut Painting cannot stop at its skills,the key point to wake this art up is seeking its cultural implication deeply.
