Abstract/Summary:
Zen is the product of Chinese localization.Zen has had more or less influence on Chinese people’s thoughts since its birth,especially for literati.The literati began to meditate and discourse the universal truth under the influence of zen or,more often,draw it into the artistic creation.So to speak,zen thought influenced the way of thinking and aesthetics of literati artists.The political corruption in the late Ming Dynasty contributed to the development of zen,and the ethos of meditating and discoursing the universal truth prevailed among literati.The protagonist Dong Qichang demonstrated in this thesis is the typical representative of the literati meditating and discoursing the universal truth.Dong Qichang’s ink-wash painting has always been defined as "literati painting",it does not know that Dong qichang’s ink-wash painting has transformed into literati painting with zen which named "zen painting" under the influence of zen thought.The research purpose of this thesis is mainly to inquire into ink-wash painting ’s change which typically representatived by Dong Qichang’s under the influence of zen thought,which is from the formation of the zen thought and its influence on the Chinese,especially on the Chinese literati.The thesis is divided into six chapters: the first chapter introduces the process from Indian zen Buddhism to China zen,and briefly summarizes the relationship between the zen thought and the ink-wash painting of successive dynasties.The second chapter gives the background and idea of why Dong Qichang integrates zen thought into his ink-wash painting by listing the affairs that he has dealings with zen Buddhism.The fourth,fifth and sixth chapters are the core of this thesis: in the fourth chapter,the zen thought’s influence on Dong Qichang’s creation concept and creation form for the ink-wash painting is concrete analysed.And the influence on Dong Qichang’s calligraphic style and ink technique is concrete analysed at the creation form aspect.In the fifth chapter,it is mainly analysed that the influence of zen thought on the composition layout and the pursuit of aesthetic interest of Dong Qichang’s ink-wash painting.In chapter 6,Dong Qichang and Shen Zhou are made a comparison,which intended to highlight DongQichang,whose ink-wash painting is with zen meaning,namely zen painting style,by the influence of zen thought.
