| Brushwork is one of the main elements of Chinese calligraphy and painting,which plays an extremely important role.As a master of landscape painting,Dong Qichang pioneered the development of Chinese art history by exploring the artistic form of brushwork on the basis of inheriting the tradition of ancient methods.The word "brushwork" runs through Dong Qichang’s artistic theory and thoughts.His theoretical works of painting and calligraphy,"Essays of Painting And Zen Room" and his collection of poems,"Rongtai Collection" both record his discussion on brushwork.Dong Qichang regarded brushwork as the essence of calligraphy and painting and the spirit of landscape painting.The brushwork described is not only a concrete brushwork method,but also an abstract aesthetic thought.The combination of theory and practice fully explains the content of brushwork.Dong Qichang introduced the brush of calligraphy into painting and formed his own system,emphasizing that literati painting should express the artistic conception in their hearts and have a unique style.His brushwork concept and spiritual realm that he pursued have exerted an influence on later generations.This paper is composed of four parts.The first part mainly introduces the dong qichang’s personal life and art experience,and the status of the politics,economy and culture during the period of late Ming dynasty which impact on the development of art,in the background at that time,the appearance of the social ideological trend of literati,what changes have taken place in the art of living,dong qichang’s painting and calligraphy learning process is also different.The second part focuses on dong Qichang’s painting and calligraphy theory and thoughts.The theory of the North and South Schools makes painting divided into two systems according to different painting methods and styles.Dong Qichang advocates the South School based on literati painting.The third part is the core of this paper,that is,the content of dong Qichang’s brushwork,that is,the brushwork of calligraphy,the embodiment of calligraphic brushwork in painting chapter and techniques,ink and its application in painting and calligraphy,through the analysis of Dong Qichang’s painting and calligraphy works to appreciate its ink purport.The fourth part summarizes Dong Qichang’s view of brushwork and expounds the influence of his painting and calligraphy theory on the later generations,from which we can get inspiration.Dong Qichang interprets the relationship between painting and calligraphy with his outstanding practice and theory of painting and calligraphy,gives a new definition of painting and ink with his unique brushwork skills and concepts,leads the freehand spirit of literati painting with his light artistic style,and pushes Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy to a new height. |
