A Study Of Primary English Student Teachers' Identity:From The Perspective Of School Landscape

Teaching practice is the transitional stage of a teacher from a student to a teacher.Whether student teachers can successfully make a positive identity change during the teaching practice will directly affect their decision of being a teacher in the future.So the teacher identity is particularly critical in the process of teaching practice.There are few studies focusing on primary English student teacher identity in current research both at home and abroad.In this study,a qualitative research method was used to select three student teachers in the same school and carry out a follow-up survey during the whole practice period.First,this paper presents the process of three student teachers' identity change during the whole teaching practice period,from professional identity,subject identity and situated identity.Then,it analyzes the specific factors which affect the change of student teachers' identity.The findings show:(1)there is a big difference among individuals during the teaching practice.(2)the change of the student teachers' identity as a school teacher is not obvious during the teaching practice.(3)the teaching culture,student,cooperative teachers and school teacher community have an impact on the identity of the student teachers,among which the most influential factors are the cooperative teachers and school teacher community.From these findings,we can come up with the following implications.Firstly,normal colleges should improve the student professional ability,develop a criteria on the selecting of practice schools,and strengthen communication with the practice school.Secondly,practice school should establish a student teachers training system and the cooperative teacher's selection mechanism in order to provide effective tutoring for student teachers.
