Discourse Analysis Of English News On Official Website Of Science Based On Generic Theory

In today's information age,more and more people learn the latest progress of science and technology by reading English sci-tech news online.Most foreign and domestic linguistic studies of English sci-tech news focus on the writing methods,the stylistic features and so on,but few of the studies refer to the Generic Structure Potential of English sci-tech news.The present study,based on the theory of Generic Structure Potential,selects 100 pieces of English sci-tech news published on the official website of Science randomly from the recent three years(2014~2016),in order to analyze the Contextual Configuration of English sci-tech news,the Generic Structure Potential of English sci-tech news and the linguistic features of the different elements in the generic structure of English sci-tech news.And this thesis uses both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis.The author finds,as for the field of English sci-tech news,there are two trends: one is about the latest scientific and technological achievements and their popularization and application;the other refers to statements or descriptions of information relevant to the scientific researches.As for the tenor of English sci-tech news,the agent roles of most of pieces of English sci-tech news include the journalists and the potential readers.They are hierarchic and with maximal social distance.As for the mode of English sci-tech news,the language of English sci-tech news is constitutive and the medium is written.Generic Structure Potential of English sci-tech news contains two branches: one is ???;the other is ???.As for the linguistic features of English sci-tech news in Science,it is found that short powerful words,technical words,modal verbs,long declarative sentences and simple present tense are used a lot.This study contributes to an understanding of the dynamic nature of English sci-tech news and also benefits the application of generic theory.
