Stone carvings in Northern Wei Dynasty in Shandong feature of different regions and dynasties.Firstly,stone carvings during this period in Shandong are collected to broaden the overall research horizon of stone carvings in Northern Wei Dynasty.Secondly,numerous stone carvings of different types in Shandong during this period are analyzed to summarize calligraphy characteristics of inscription on stones in Northern Wei Dynasty in Shandong.Thirdly,through comparison with other regions,it can be found that stone carvings in Northern Wei Dynasty in Shandong are correlated,affecting,infiltrated and integrated with that in other areas.This paper is divided into two major parts,namely the stone carvings during "Pingcheng period" and the stone carvings during "Luoyang period".Stone carvings were scarce in Shandong during "Pingcheng period",from which it can be seen that Zhao Jiong's Records of Stone Rubbing and the same kind of folk stone carvings in Shandong were influenced by folk popular handwritings,in which the style of clerical script had been removed and presented a style of cursive regular script.The appearance of Cui Chengzong's Records of Stone Rubbing indicated that the style of standardized regular script of inscription on stones in the Northern Dynasties appeared in Shandong,which was different from the style of Zhao Jiong's Records of Stone Rubbing,but was the predecessor of "Luoyang style" standardized regular script of inscription on stones.After Emperor Xiaowen moved to Luoyang and carried out Chinesization Reform,inscription on stones formed a standardized "Luoyang style" and influenced the overall development of stone inscription calligraphy in Northern Wei Dynasty.The calligraph in Shandong was also influenced.The mainstream styles of stone carvings have a unified development trend,and they derived the "phenomenon of Zhang Menglong Style Calligraphy".
