A Commentary On Chen Pan’s Research Of Bamboo Slips

Chen Pan is a famous Chinese scholar in Taiwan,his research fields is wide.He has a large number of masterpiece,and he is cautious in his works.He has a profound knowledge of writings in the bamboo slips,mainly investigating the study of bamboo slips in the early twentieth Century,Dunhuang(敦煌)and the two batch of Juyan(居延).In the academic history of our country,Chen is a scholar who has been engaged in the study of bamboo slips for the same period after Wang Guowei and Luo Zhenyu,as well as the typical representatives of bamboo slips in Taiwan.His main research methods of bamboo slips combine"QianJia textual study"in the Ming and Qing Dynasties with"double evidence method"of Wangwei in modern Times.According to the method,Chen Pan researched the main study of the bamboo slips systems,ancient laws,regulations in the Han and Jin Dynasties,social class characters and so on.After that,he found the origin of bamboo slips and proved it mutually from the historical books.The symbols,idioms and form of bamboo slips,can be seen as a research in the writing system of Chen Pan.Firstly,Chen Pan is the first person who devoted to the study of bamboo slips symbols,such as"Blank","●","√",and"three points?","cipher","two horizontal=".Wang Guowei and Lao Gan translate word interpretation of bamboo slips in the Juyan(居延),but compared with Chen Pan,they had no detailed textual research.Secondly,in the bamboo slips idioms,Chen Pan revised and supplemented in the textual research on idioms of Wang Guowei,Luo Zhenyu and Lao Gan etc.At the same time,Chen Pan paid attention to the new words which not used by others.Finally,in the form of bamboo slips,Chen Pan is also one of the scholars who propose early combination of bamboo slips and handed down literature review of bamboo form.Chen Pan put forward some unique insights.Autumn shooting system:Chen Pan made systematic verification of autumn shooting system earlier in Juyan(居延)bamboo slips.He not only researched the development and evolution process of the autumn shooting system,but also researched the main participants,the exam time,the exam standard and exam content.Moreover,he researched the relationship between historical books("military exercise","the sacrifice of autumn day","military arrange")and autumn shooting in Han Bamboo slips.Furthermore,he researched the words related to autumn shooting system,such as"law","shoot twelve arrows","a beam of arrows","medium range","no medium range","permit","hard money",which made great contributions to the relatively complete autumn shooting in bamboo slips.The aspect of yuan(爰)book study and textual research: Chen Pan is the first one who notice the problems of yuan(爰)book in bamboo slips.He researched its historical origins from the historical documents and elucidating new views in bamboo slips.In his opinion,yuan(爰)book had two characters,one is apologia,another is certificate of view in the academic circles of Jane slips triggered widespread discussion,although with the related literature unearthed continuously updated.However,the revision and supplement for the research topics in the book is still a lot of inspiration so far.
