The Dwarfs In Ancient Egypt

As a minority group in ancient and modern society,dwarfs have always been the object of attention in the medical field and literature and art field.Dwarfism also existed in ancient Egyptian society.However,compared with the ancient China,Greece,Rome,India and other civilizations,ancient Egypt,due to its special natural environment and social and religious factors relatively more information on dwarfism with regard to society.In ancient Egypt,dwarfs enjoyed a special social status,and their physical disabilities did not affect their normal life at all.In real life,they were easily accepted and played an important social role,and some of the best of them could also serve as officials with many titles,and enjoy very high honors.In religion,the worship of the dwarf god Bes and Ptah occur both,who become a magic power in the eyes of the Egyptians.Based on the classification of the existing archaeological and original documents of ancient Egyptian dwarfism,this paper analyze the Egyptian terminology of dwarfism as wells classification and functions of Egyptian dwarfs.Meanwhile,through the historical records of dwarf with other ancient civilizations,on the one hand,I analyze the general position of ancient Egyptian dwarf among the world ancient civilization.On the other hand,through the evolution of the role of dwarfs in Egyptian civilization,this paper briefly examine the status changes of dwarfism in real life combined with the background,and finally summarizes the status of dwarfism in ancient Egypt.Thus,through the study of the minority group of ancient Egyptian dwarfs,on the one hand,we can understand their roles in Egyptian daily life and religious mythology,and enrich the study of ancient Egyptian social and religious history.On the other hand,I hope that dwarfs can be more valued and cared for in modern society by summing up the whole status of ancient Egyptian dwarfs.
