Autonomous learning is a new way of learning which is in contrast to the traditional acceptance learning.Taking students as the main body of learning,it can not only effectively improve the efficiency and quality of learning and,but also lay a solid foundation for students' lifelong learning in the future.At present,English learning is found both passive and inefficient in No.3 Middle School in Kunming Economic-technical Development Zone(No.3 Middle School for short),and students have rarely paid enough attention to autonomous learning.In view of this conundrum,the author chooses students from grade seven of No.3 Middle School as research subjects.By analyzing the current situation and characteristics of their autonomous learning capacity,the author proposes the necessity and feasibility of autonomous learning in this school,and explores the approaches to cultivate the students' self-learning ability during classroom teaching,The main purpose of this study is to arouse the attention of teachers and students in this school to autonomous learning and provide plausible self-learning patterns.The subjects of this study are students of Grade 7 in No.3 Middle School,Kunming Economic-technical Development Zone.The author believes that it is proper and important to develop the students' English autonomous learning ability from the very beginning of their English learning.This study adopts the fo interview and questionnaire by means of Excel software for its data analysis.The results show that students' English autonomous learning ability in No.3 Middle School is low;they lack clear learning objectives and detailed study plans;their performance in English learning motivation is not strong;they seldom use learning strategies;their learning control ability is weak;and their self-assessment ability needs to be improved.In view of the above findings,based on the motivation theory,cognitive theory and constructivism theory.The author has had a one-year experimental practice to build English autonomous teaching mode,develop students' learning strategies and stimulate students learning motivation.Result of the questionnaire between,beforeand after the test in the experimental class,the questionnaire of the difference in English tests between experimental class and control class as well as teacher observation,interviews and other results,we can conclude that the author's construction of autonomous learning mode can effectively enhance the cultivation of students' autonomous learning ability,and further improve students' English learning achievement.The study of English autonomous learning in No.3 middle school can open a field of vision and bring about certain theoretical and practical effect.
