The Study Of Chen Pu And The Sample Reels Of Mr.Shitang

Chen Pu,a famous writer,educator and Confucian scholar,who lived between the Song and the Yuan Dynasties,was born in Ningde City,Fujian Province.His given name was Shangde,be honored as Mr.Shitang.Chen Pu was very clever,diligent and had a passion for reading Confucian Classics.Later he learened from Han Yifu in Kuaiji,studied Neo-Confucianism carefully and assiduously.Chen Pu was a man of high morals and had lots of friends.Simultaneously,he was proficient in astronomy,geography and many other aspects.After the destruction of the Southern Song Dynasty,he lived in Shitang,focused on academic research and education.Afterwards he used to teach in Renfeng,Jiangyang,Fuzhou and other places.His students Han Xintong,Yu zai,Huang Shang were celebrities at that time.The academic characteristics of Chen Pu were pragmatic and innovative.His masterpiece the Sample Reels of Mr.Shitang had twenty-two volumes.It was rich in content and its words were exquisite.There were not only detailed records of calendar and astrology,as well as unique comments on politics,culture and education.Both poetry,articles,political theory,prefaces and postscripts all paid attention to preserving historical facts and providing valuable materials for the study of the turbulent social history of the Song and the Yuan.Therefore,the Sample Reels of Mr.Shitang was widely circulated.The common versions were Jiajing Version,Wanli Version and Tianqi Version.
