This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report based on the warmhearted urban story Boomer's Bucket List.It is an impressive and affecting story of pet written by an American writer,Susan Pethick. The main story line of this book can be divided into three sections,“Boomer was ill”,“travel together” and “new life, new hope”.Readers can follow the protagonist travelling from Chicago to California along the Route 66(the Mother Road of U.S.)and feel charming and soul piercing beauty of both sceneries and human nature.Through narratives and descriptions, the writer makes great efforts to transmit the importance of love between human and animals.Because of rich culture-loaded words and phrases and abundant indirect psychological descriptions, the translator chooses this book to do E-C translation under the guidance of cultural translation view. The translator of this report chooses chapter one to eight as translation materials for this report, because these eight chapters contain a lot of words and phrases with cultural connotations.Besides, these chapters are rich in psychological descriptions especially indirect inner feeling descriptions. In addition, the cause of the story and main characters are all illustrated clearly in this part. This report explores the translation difficulties from lexical and syntactic levels by reviewing representative cases under the guidance of cultural translation view. For lexical level, the translator analyzes words and phrases with cultural connotations in the source text. For syntactic level, sentences of indirect psychological descriptions are discussed detailedly. From doing this translation report, the translator finds that to deal with words or phrases with cultural connotations, one should search for their original and reliable materials to support his or her translations. If necessary, the annotation is quite a good method to explain these words or phrases. As we all know, literary works about novels always comprise a large number of psychological descriptions. For translators, direct psychological descriptions are easy to translate, while for indirect psychological descriptions, during the process of translation, more factors need to be considered, such as moods, sceneries, weather or other special factors relating to the plot of the story. Therefore, some useful translation skills can help translators translate these kinds of innermost feeling descriptions well.
