A Report On Translation Of Careless Child

With the development of globalization,cultural exchanges between different regions are becoming more frequent.The novel,as important literary genre,plays a significant role in this process.In-depth study of fictional translation can promote cultural and academic exchanges in different countries.Careless Child is a length English novel written by Karlene M.Kubat,which amounts to about 90,000 words.The first chapter of the novel is chosen as the source text,which consists of 9,031 words.The report gives a brief introduction about novel.It also expatiates the theoretical knowledge involved in the translation and briefly describes the translation process.In addition,case analysis method is adopted in the report.This report analyzes the application of these two translation theories in lexical and syntactic level concretely by using amplification,omission,negation,conversion,inversion,voice changes,division and combination from the perspectives of Newmark’s semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory.Through using these two translation theories,the translation not only retains the original language features and unique expressions,but also respects the reading needs of target readers as much as possible.Through the translation practice,the author not only has a deeper understanding for this novel,but also has a new understanding of translation theories and translation techniques in fictional translation.
