A Translation Report Of Anyone Can Do It(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Semantic Translation And Communicative Translation

As a branch of literature,autobiography gives top priority to reviewing the author‘s life experience.In addition to the feature of literary aesthetics which is necessary for traditional literature,autobiography also bears the characteristics of historical authenticity.Translation research on these peculiarities of autobiographical literature is not only a requirement for guaranteeing the quality of translation,but also an appeal for cross-cultural communication.The source text of this report is the first seven chapters excerpted from Anyone Can Do It.From the first-person perspective,it reviews the glorious life of a commercial wizard named Duncan Bannatyne who starts from scratch in a humorous tone.Based on the characteristics of the source text,the author adopts semantic translation and communicative translation proposed by Peter Newmark to guide her translation practice.In order to ensure the realization of literary aesthetics of autobiography,under the guidance of semantic translation,the author utilizes the reservation of rhetorical device,the consistency of sentiment and the restoration of writing style to produce equivalent influence or inspirations on the target readers in comparison to the original readers.For the sake of guaranteeing the reproduction of historical authenticity of autobiography,the author employs the conversion of part of speech,the adjustment of sentence structure and the change of voice with the help of communicative translation,so that the original information can be faithfully conveyed and comprehended.In dealing with the discourse which is characterized by literary aesthetics and historical authenticity,the author combines semantic translation and communicative translation,adopting the addition of annotation and the substitution of specific culture,realizing the reproduction of aesthetic form and the transmission of relevant content simultaneously.Based on the translation practice,the author concludes that semantic translation can restore the literary aesthetics of autobiography,ensuring the quality of the translation;communicative translation can faithfully convey related information in autobiography,promoting culture exchange.This study further validates the accuracy and scientific nature of Newmark‘s theory.However,due to the lack of in-depth understanding of foreign cultures and a limited number of cases,this report also has some limitations.What the author intends to do is providing a reference for similar autobiographical translation research in the future.
