This is a Chinese-English translation report on Chapter 17 and Chapter 18,excerpted from Chen Tingjing 1658 written by Wang Yuewen,a famous writer in China. The excerpted text told a story of politic struggle the main characters involved in,and the collisions between Obio and the boy emperor in the Forbidden City. The translation practice is carried out with the guidance of Peter Newmark`s translation theory. The style of the source text is vocative. As Peter Newmark has pointed out,the vocative text should be translated with the rule of communicative translation. So,the translator followed the rule of communicative translation in this translation practice and tried to follow the comprehension as well as response of target readers. The author will analyze the characteristic words and many other difficulties of the transcript under Newmark`s translation theory. In this report, the translator translates under the communicative translation theory and analyzes problems from the perspective of it,to draw a conclusion from translation experience.Translators should follow the trend of the market,so that the translation work can be more convenient to the culture output. This report is an attempt for those reasons. The translation report consists of two parts, including the source text and the translation report. The second part can be divided into four parts: the introduction and analysis of the source text;the task and process of translation;the case study;the summary.
