Traditional Chinese culture has always been the treasure of our country and the vein for us to inherit,and the art of painting is a crucial part of it.Paining of the Qing Dynasty is the latest traditional cultural inherence,which continues the touch of paintings of men of letters in Ming and Qing Dynasties,and the unique role played by “Four Wangs” in the history of Qing painting inevitably makes it a focus of related studies.The term “Four Wangs” has been taken as a conventional proper noun after being used for a long time that you never think about how it became the “Four Wangs”.In fact,the term “Four Wangs” refers to more than a few painters or a style of painting.Different aspects of this school of painting-its constant maturing,growth and limitations can been seen by tracing the source of this term and combining it with the geographical environment,political changes and economic developments.Including the transition between the “Four Wangs” and the orthodox school of the traditional Chinese painting,you also can find the clue from them.The “Four Wangs” during the reigns of Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing were passed down till the rise of “Small Four Wangs” including Wang Jiu and Wang Yu.During this period,Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas where families surnamed Wang lived together were widely influenced and had numerous followers,but places like Yangzhou also produced new bloods like Yangzhou School in the meantime.A diverse art circle of Jiangsu and Zhejiang was established as different schools of painting and painting thoughts influenced each other.At this stage,among theories of panting written,representative painters of “Four Wangs”school of painting were evaluated by different stages,where you can see painting taste then and the angle of understanding predecessors as well as the impact on contemporaries.In the process of developing,the inheriting system generated by the “Four Wangs”to adapt to the environment is also a fusion of the traditional pattern and the ever-opening and ever-changing world,which also offers us a path for reference to get closer to traditional painting more effectively.
