Tactics For Escort Interpreting From The Perspective Of Communication Strategies

This practice report is based on two international film festivals attended by the author in September 2016 and April 2017.It takes communication strategies as the theoretical guidance,proposes coping tactics for the problems encountered by the interpreter in the process of escort interpreting,and verifies the tactics.The report first reviews the literature on escort interpreting and communication strategies,and then lists the definition and classification of communication strategies.By listening to the recording and analyzing the transcripts,it is found that the problems encountered by the interpreter in the first film festival are mainly divided into two aspects: listening problems and extra-linguistic knowledge problems.Accordingly,under the guidance of communication strategies,combining the characteristics of escort interpreting,communication strategies were verified in the second film festival.It is found that appeal,transliteration,paraphrase,explanation,avoidance and reduction can effectively solve the problems encountered by the interpreter in escort interpreting.This report,on the one hand,can help interpreters to solve the problems in escort interpreting;on the other hand,it can bring some help and inspiration to MTI learners and teachers.
