New culture,new system,new ideas and new trends mirrored in social life are bound to be reflected in our language in some certain and appropriate forms.With the progress and popularization of the online media such as microblog and WeChat,a kind of network language variants have derived from it-the network “micro-X” words appear continuously and become one of the most representative new words in recent years.Due to the popularity,strong vitality and productivity,“micro-X” words are arousing more and more scholars' concern to do researches on them.With the network “micro-X” words as the research objects,based on the questionnaire survey of groups aged from 15 to 55 years old,this paper explores and summarizes the classification and communication characteristics of “micro-X” words,as well as factors influencing the spread of “micro-X” words by using sociolinguistics related theories.Baidu search engine and the most common network social tools such as WeChat,QQ and microblog are employed to determine target “micro-X” words to be analyzed.This study mainly discusses the three questions: 1.What is the classification of network “micro-X” words ? 2.What are the communication characteristics of network “micro-X” words among different groups? 3.What are the factors that affect the communication of network “micro-X” words?The results show that,firstly,“micro-X” words can be categorized into monosyllabic,disyllabic,trisyllabic and polysyllabic words in phonology.In semantics,they can be divided into words linked with the original meaning “miniature”,words related to microblog and WeChat,and words associated with network.Grammatically,it can be a noun,a verb or an adjective,among which the verb and the adjective have a tendency of nominalization.Secondly,among different groups,“micro-X” words are the most popular among the people aged from 26-35 year-old,those from 15-25 year-old ranking at the second.The gender difference is that the popularization of “micro-X” words with women is slightly higher than that of men.The higher the degree of network contact and educational background of people,the higher the frequency of their use of “micro-X” words.The IT related industries,education and research related industries and students are the three major industries that have the highest use and understanding of “micro-X” words.Thirdly,the gender difference of the use of “micro-X” words is mainly due to the prevalence of Taobao culture and WeChat-business.The effect of youth subculture has led increasingly more young people to use or even create “micro-X” words to show their differences.The progress of network media has further promoted the dissemination of “micro-X” words.The individual social cognition and personal embodied experience will influence people's understanding and deconstruction of “micro-X” words,thus affecting the communication of these words.
