Conditional sentences refer to those sentences that imply conditional relationship.Most legal sentences contain four elements,which refer to legal subject,legal action,case,and condition.Condition is the premise of bringing a legal sentence into effect,which closely relates to rights and obligations of relevant parties.Therefore,it is significant to acquire skills of translating conditional sentences.In general English,conditional sentences are usually divided into sentences of implied condition and sentences of real condition.Similarly,conditional sentences in legal English can be divided into covert and overt conditional sentences depending whether there exists a conditional introducer.Accordingly,this report divides conditional sentences into overt conditional sentences which are marked by common introducers including “if”,“where”,“when”,“in case of”,“in the event that”,and “provided that”,and covert conditional sentences in which conditional relationship is implied by preposition phrase,independent genitive,attributive clause,or the context.Having translated the facility agreement by adopting literal and liberal translation along with translation skills such as syntactic linearity,conversion,addition,and omission.The author here presents the problems she met in this translation practice and the problem-solving process with cases.
