A Report On The C-E Translation Of Conditional Sentences In The Project Bidding Documents Of Shanxi Province

The bidding documents are a type of business contracts,belonging to legal language.According to international practice,all text data involving project bidding documents are required to be written in English.On the basis of the translation practice in the bidding documents,the translation strategy for conditional sentences in the government bidding documents are explored.The two bidding documents in this report are about road construction and hospital removal projects respectively.There are abundant compound sentences,among which conditional sentences take about 50%.According to the features of conditional sentences in the bidding documents by the author,two translation strategies for these two types can be adopted correspondingly:literal translation and conversion.Literal translation is realized mainly through different introductory words.Conversion can be divided into:conversion into attributive clauses,conversion into time adverbial clauses containing specific time conjunctions,conversion into the structure of where...there...,conversion into passive structure and so on.The report aims to summarize and analyze translation strategies of conditional sentences of the bidding documents to provide reference for later relevant translation.
