This is a translation project report on the biography The Man Who Knew:The Life and Times of Alan Greenspan.The biography covers a wide range of topics,including the whole life of Greenspan,his intimate friends,his partners,and his life's work.There are 29 chapters altogether,which are divided into three parts: the thinker,the politician,the economist.People believe that he is the authority and decisive figure of national economic policy and has made outstanding contributions to global economic stability.This report,based on this translation practice that totals nearly 20,000 characters and previous related studies,probes into specific translation strategies from the perspective of information structure theory,which contains principles of given plus new information,information focus and thematic progression pattern to explore the translation of phrases as post-modifiers,clauses as post-modifiers and passive constructions.This perspective makes it feasible for translators not only to satisfactorily analyze clausal elements of the source text,but to rearrange the information units in a proper way.That is,the translator should place new information and focus information in the end,and use parallel progression pattern functioned as anaphoric reference to make a complete and beautiful text.This report is divided into five parts.Chapter One gives a general description of the translation task,the significance of the task and requirements for the task.Chapter Two is the translation process: preparation,while-translating and proofreading.Chapter Three introduces the basic elements of information structure theory and lists the theoretical analysis framework.Chapter Four mainly focuses on the case study in view of information structure theory.Chapter Five draws a conclusion on this translation report and points out its limitations and study prospects in the future.
