The Influence Of Self-esteem And Trust On Marital Quality:The Subjective Feeling Of Marriage As The Indicator

ObjectivesWith the development of the time,the network is convenient,then some negative news about marriage often fill people's field of vision.According to the ministry of civil affairs data,marriage rates have plummeted in the increasing divorce rate,which reflect the changes of our people's views on marriage,and shows that the marriage situation is not optimistic of married couples in China.In the marriage consulting practice,the researchers found that the married visitors had a negative self-evaluation and had a strong demand for trust,but the trust level of the spouse was low.Therefore,this study examined the influence of self-esteem and trust on marriage and trys to understand marriage quality from the perspective of subjective feeling,aims to verify whether trust plays an intermediary role in the influence of self-esteem on the subjective feelings of marriage.MethodsTo explore the relationship among self-esteem,trust and marital quality,three scales were used as measurement tool to do quantitative research among 334 married subjects,such as Rosenberg self-esteem scale,trust scale and marriage percetion scale.Interviews were conducted on four subjects at the same time,then the interview data was encoded,according to the grounded theory.the change of psychological and behavior was vividly and intuitively showed during the interaction relationship of couples.ResultsData analysis results show:(a)The level of individual self-esteem in marriage has a significant difference at different household-register and educational backgrounds,then self-denial has significant differences at different personal income.The level of they trust on their spouse in marriage have a significant differences at different household-register,educational backgrounds and personal income.The marital quality has a significant difference at gender,education and personal income.(b)There is a significant correlation between the level of self-esteem and trust and the subjective feelings of marriage.The higher level of self-esteem and trust,the more positive felling individuals will have about marriage,the marriage quality is better.(c)The main mechanism is self-denial and dependent and faith of self-esteem and trust's influence on subjective feelings of marriage.(d)Trust has a mediating effect on the influence of self-esteem on marital quality.Combined with the data of the four interviewees and the.Combined with four respondents' questionnaire data and interview results show that the low level of self-esteem of the individual,the more inclined to self denial,if one thinks spouse's behavior is predictable which spouse is a reliable person and have confident expectation on future,so his marriage subjective evaluation is positive and marital quality is higher.Therefore his self-denial will reduce and self-esteem increases.Finally,in the case of marital counseling for individuals with low self-esteem,we suggested that consultant may consider starting from the trust aspect of the spouse,and work in the dimension of self-denial,dependability and future faith.
